DIRECTIVE PRINCIPLES OF STATE POLICY AND THE FATE OF DEVELOPMENT OF INDIA….

The Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP) that we took from the constitution of Ireland envisaged to make India, a welfare state. This gives moral responsibility to the state-both at the union and at state level-to give directions to governments to enact such laws for the overall development and welfare of the country. The irony is this that they are non-justiciable and hence cannot be enforced by the courts.

The constitution makers knew the socio-economic and politico-cultural realities of the country.  We made them non-judicial because at that time, and now also, we cannot afford to implement them in totality. Hence they have become mere scripts on the paper and even after 75 years of Independence our India is looking far behind the goals of development and for us it is a long dream to see the country into the category of developed nations in near future too.

If awareness comes in the public regarding the constitution and DPSP we can gear up the pace of development.  Governments at all levels take benefit of public being unaware about their basic law of the land i.e. constitution, to keep their ruling intact for a long time into this developing country.
