EFFICIENT CIVIL SERVICES TRANSFORMING INDIA

Britishers brought in the concept of civil services in India. At that time they badly needed this system and through which they could rule over this country, which was at that time more or less uneducated and  unorganized.  They had experimented and tested this concept of ‘civil services’ into their country and the experiment was successful.

In India our civil servants help in enacting legislations and executing of those laws on this land. These services (IAS/IPS/IRS/IFS…) help in maintaining the federal character of our country, establish the spirit of constitution and in getting higher pace of development of our country.

After getting independence as the country opted for the socialistic form of economy the responsibility and accountability of civil servants further increased from maintaining ‘law and order’ to participating actively  in the socio economic development of the country.

Had this system not got corrupted then this would have been the best system of development considering our socio-economic and politico-cultural conditions.  Now the government is trying to weed out corruption from this system by introducing and expanding the scope of e-governance, m-governance and spreading awareness of RTI in practice to the maximum population.

UPSC is selects efficient officers in the form of IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS among others every year. Their selection and training consumes so much portion of public money.  We have to take strong decisions so that this bureaucracy works efficiently and get engaged in achieving the developmental goals of our country.
